Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

Class Information

Take downs, sweeps, chokes, holds, arm and leg locks. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques rely not on strength but leverage and skill, and make it a great sport for everyone.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) students can take part in either our beginner only or mixed lessons.

Beginner only sessions are for those new to BJJ or for white belts that want to re-learn some of the basics. These classes run on a continuous basis so students are welcome to join at any time. Once they’ve learnt the basic techniques and positions, students can take part in a combination of beginner or mixed sessions, or move on to take part in only the latter.

Both classes start with a vigorous conditioning warm up and instructors then move on to demonstrate techniques, set ups and positions. Students will then drill these and use them in the sparring that follows.

Equipment

We train with gi most of the time, apart from mixed classes on Fridays which are no gi.

If you’re new to BJJ and don’t have a gi it’s ok to train in thin, flexible tracksuit bottoms/shorts and a t-shirt for the first few classes.

Checkmat BJJ

London Fight Factory’s BJJ squad is one of the teams that make up Checkmat BJJ, founded by world champions Leozinho and Ricardo Vieira, both formerly of Brasa BJJ.

Checkmat BJJ has become a major force on the mats at any competition they enter, and the 2009 European Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Championships were no exception. We’re proud to host regular seminars with Leozinho, Ricardo and Alan ‘Finfou’ Nascimento and be part of such a successful and dynamic global team.
