Class Information

Strikes, kicks, punches, blocks and some stand up grappling – the “Science of Eight Limbs” involves using your hands, elbows, knees and shins to strike an opponent and defend yourself against them.

Students can take part in either our beginner only or mixed Muay Thai classes. The latter are great for those who have never trained before or have trained very little, or those who want to go back and improve upon some of the basics.

In the beginner only classes there isn’t any sparring, and students focus on learning techniques, pad work and working in pairs to put together a few great combinations. In the mixed classes there is an opportunity to spar, but only if students want to. All students are encouraged to though as it obviously enables them to put what they’ve learnt into practice and see how they cope with an opponent – even one who they’ll know pretty well. Plus, we’re often asked how martial arts can be used in real life situations, and sparring shows you just that.

Beginners are welcome to attend our mixed classes, however they won’t be expected to spar and we recommend that they continue attending the classes geared towards them until they feel confident to move into the mixed classes permanently. In the latter classes, alongside more sparring, students will also learn how to put together more combinations and also study clinch work.

Both classes start with a great cardio work out, with possibly some pad work mixed in, that gets students fit and ready to train. All questions are welcome in any of our lessons and everyone is welcome to come along and take part, whatever level of fitness or experience they have.

Students wear normal gym gear: shorts, tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts etc, and whilst we have some boxing gloves, head protectors and shin/instep protectors at the gym if you decide to train regularly you should know the following.

The afore-mentioned equipment is used by everyone here so, once you’ve decided that Muay Thai is definitely the sport for you, we would recommend you buy your own, and purchase equipment that fits you and your needs perfectly. You’ll also need some hand wraps, a gumshield and, if you’re in our mixed class either a groin protector, if you’re a guy, or chest protector, if you’re a girl.
